1917:
Germany was determined to win against the allies. In order to win they promoted the idea of submarine warfare. Unrestricted submarine warfare is sinking other vessels without a warning in a certain territory. This disrupted everyone except Germany's allies. The Lusitania is an example of unrestricted submarine warfare. This ship was in a designated area and it was sunk by several missiles from a German U-Boat.

1918-1919:
The war ended in 1918 after a lot of fighting with the Armistice. The Treaty of Versailles was signed by the Big Three (U.S., France, and Britain) demanding different punishments regarding Germany's surrender. Germany was not allowed to negotiate but was forced to sign the treaty. Unlike the Armistice, The Treaty of Versailles officially ended WW1.
